  4. Sorry cannot be with you today at this sad time but our thoughts are with you and all your family. Uncle Alan will always be remembered as the tough staff sergeant with the very deep voice and a heart of gold. He always made me to polish his army boots when my family and I came down to stay. They all went in the evening to the local hostelry and I felt so honoured to be given such an important job at the age of eight. Every time I polish my own shoes I think of Uncle Alan and grateful for teaching me what pride means.
