  4. Dear Uncle Brian,

You were my first friend when I arrived in Swanage from China in 1998. I had difficulty finding my way home near High Street and circled at least three times. You approached me and started talking. You told me about your trip to China and shared knowledge about Confucius. Since then, we have built our friendship. I called you Uncle Brian. I used to water your garden when you were away. You took me on the world’s last steamboat ride. I had tea with Marguerite and her friends on the pier. You took me to your church for the very first time in my life, which was the first time I had been to one. You invited me to your house for lunch with your nephew and his family, who played for the Ajax football team. You introduced me to another nephew of yours who worked as a bartender at the Victoria Pub. You calculated my lucky number, which is 2. You helped me pick flowers for my new host family lady. I know that your favorite flower was freesia. I still remember saying goodbye on my last night in Swanage before heading to St. Andrews, Scotland. I came unannounced, and you took me in. Recently, I have had a strong feeling to call you, but after much research and tracking you down, I found out that you have just passed away. May you rest in peace, my dear friend, my Uncle Brian. I will miss you.

    Love,
    Ken
