  4. Chris, one of my dearest friends, I will miss you forever. Daniele and I, together with the community of Italian turret clock enthusiasts, will always be grateful for your advice, your friendship, your presence at our events and all the research we did together. We had wonderful days together. You leave a big gap in our souls.
    Rest in peace, my friend.

  5. It’s difficult to encapsulate the essence of Chris in a few sentences but along with all other contributors, I agree that we were privileged to be part of his life. Chris had so many friends, testament to the fact that he was genuinely interested in us all. Each time we visited he would talk about all of you and when he last had contact with you. He always accepted Joshua’s autistic idiosyncrasies, bringing his inimitable humour to their relationship. There are so many things I wish I had told him before he died and I have to hope he knew how much he was loved. He was always kind and supportive, funny, clever, and loyal. He was also thought-provoking – I loved the way he could think beyond any sort of ‘status quo’, challenging traditional thinking in order to make us reconsider our own values, though never in a judgemental way.

He will be missed by this family for a very long time though he is in a better place – in Joshua’s words, he is now in Heaven and happy to meet up with old friends who have died before him.

  6. Dear Chris or Mr Macky as I used to call you in our phone conversations. Many many thanks for all you did for Robin. Thanks to you he loves clocks and the days you spent together at Christchurch Priory and all the others. You taught him so much we will always be forever grateful
We will miss your fantastic cooking and your smile and the times we had a Chinese takeaway. You were planning with Robin to have him and Iveta his girlfriend over to stay but unfortunately that is not to be and she is with him in Dorset for this sad occasion. We will miss you badly Chris. Thank you for everything. Lots of love from Robin,Bohunka, Philip,Laura,Iveta and me Ken.

  8. One thing I forgot Chris. You and Robin worked together on a beautiful grandfather clock renovating it. You said it was going for auction. When it was done you loaded into the car and set off for the ‘auction’,but instead you drove Robin home and gave him the clock. It is still ticking away but in the Czech Republic not in Dorset. Thanks for everything again Chris.

  9. I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences for the loss of my mentor who guided my steps in the world of tower clock enthusiasts. His wisdom will forever remain in my heart, and his advice will continue to steer me in my clock restoration endeavors. Farewell, dear Chris McKay, up there, in Heaven, where time knows no end! 10. Chris was a greatly valued member of the horological community. He had a major input in the establishment of a conservation based approach to servicing church clocks and his influence was not only in the UK but also abroad. It was good to serve with him on the same committees where his clear approach could cut through waffle. He had an engineers approach to research and contributed substantially to the horological literature. He was also a good host with an interesting collection arranged in his dwelling, an excellent place to spend an afternoon. We will miss him.

  11. A most moving ceremony conveying your passions and life work. As one of your many Scottish first cousins, I met you a few years back in Edinburgh and attended one of your talk on turret clocks. I think of that meeting fondly and we also shared our memories as children in Sutherland. I still have a photo of you with family and dog on Sandwood bay. Because of you I will take time to notice turret clocks wherever I roam. I wish our paths had crossed more!

  13. Oh my God, so sad to hear this, dear friend, i had sent last week Christmas wishes to you and it sounded strange no reply for you. Googled and found out. R.I.P and thanks for all youve done for me. Love you.

  14. I knew him from School – Ealing Grammar – and remember a conversation with him in the School Metalworks shop, about the Hanwell Community Centre Clock, where a linkage had him baffled! the beginning of, evidently, great things. A life well lived, time well served
