  1. My thoughts and prayers are with Margret , Naomi, Mathew and his grandchildren, all of whom he loved.
A great sadness, but a joy to know that his many and varied God given talents were so often used in the service of others, and to Gods greater glory. A great comfort and joy to know he now dwells on a distant shore and in a greater light. Called home after a life so well spent. Thankyou Dave for many years of friendship. There were camping, caravan and boating trips. Most recently cycle rides, which I shall miss.

    Your Friend Mike

We feel privileged to have known Dave and we all enjoyed some very happy times together, one so very recently, which, of course, we will never forget. 8. Our thoughts are with Margaret and family at this extremely sad time. As well as being a good friend, David was a key Founder Member of the Purbeck U3A Science & Technology Group for many years. His cheerful and methodical approach at our meetings, and his own presentations, were always appreciated by our members. David seemed so fit and someone who would somehow always be there – but sadly, and suddenly, no more. Everyone will miss you so much, David.

  10. I am very sorry Margaret but I have tested positive for Covid this morning so will not be at David’s funeral tomorrow. We had great times meeting up for coffee, walks and chats on Wednesdays and I will very much miss his enthusiasm for cycling to our venues and for our wide-ranging discussions. He was such an interesting, kind and thoughtful person. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

  11. The tragic news about David was such a shock to me, as to so many in the S&T group. He was so fit and lively and such a central part of our committee. But it is as a person that he will be so greatly missed, so friendly and engaging , so dedicated and reliable. I shall always remember David and I share in the grief with Margaret and his family and friends, within the Church and beyond. I will be at the Church but perhaps not go inside or join in the refreshments, because of Covid and my age.

  12. We will always remember David with such affection. He was uniquely kind and cheerful, full of knowledge and experience and so easy to be with. We will miss him beyond words. With much love to Margaret and all her family xx

  13. Dear Margaret and all the family. Since I came to Wareham David has always been there, helpful wise and with that knowing smile. Crusaders, Lady St Mary (the sound system) Terekeka and so much more It is so hard to believe he is gone from us but David knew Jesus had prepared a home in Heaven and he is there now.
I am so sad that I can not be at the funeral as I have covid. I will however wait on Church Green for his arrival at his final service at his beloved Lady St Mary. God bless you all.

  14. To Margaret, Naomi, Matthew and families, we are so sorry David is no longer with us. He and you welcomed us when we first came to Wareham, and helped us get involved with the local community. We will very much miss his characteristic understated humour and kindness.
Apologies we won’t be able to attend the funeral, I am still suffering from the effects of covid.
With love and best wishes from Alison and Stephen Turnock

  15. I only met David 9 months ago and was very grateful for his relaxed tuition on the Church mixer. He had a great ability to make you feel included and I only wish I had been able to meet him many years ago
    Rest peacefully David

  16. We will remember David for his friendliness and twinkling smile. He was one of the first people to welcome Mike to the church when he first arrived. Unbeknown to him he was instrumental in bringing us together for the first time by finding us seats at a crowded Remembrance Day Service in 2018. It was the first time we had sat together and started a twinkle in Mike’s eye! 4 years later we were married! He has a lot to answer for!

  21. Dear Margaret

David was such a lovely, helpful man who was rarely seen without a smile on his face. He was always busily engaged in something or the other, yet never too busy to help someone else. His combination of intelligence and common sense made him a valuable source of knowledge which he willingly shared with others. He will be greatly missed by those of us who had the good fortune to know him.

    David Reed
  22. David was a kind friend to us who we were so fond of, and who gave comfort and a helping hand to us both, particularly to David in times of need.
We were so sorry not to have been able to attend his funeral to say goodbye.

  23. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Margaret, and your family, David was very wise and a most caring person, I remember David from the days of the Crusaders and great number of years at Lady St. Mary. A good person who will be sadly missed. Bless you all.

  24. Steadfast, loyal, clever and always cheerful. A great example to us all. Wonderful to have known him for 35 years. We will always miss him.

  25. David will be sadly missed, not only within LSM and the Parish, but also for his work in the local community, with the U3A Science and Technology Group, as well as with the Rotary Club (including supporting water aid and emergency survival boxes), to say nothing of being the mastermind in developing our strong links with the School In Terekeka,
Having worked with David, on and of over the last 25 years, I have seen how dedicated he has been with all the causes he has been involved with. I have also valued his friendship, where I have always felt I could approach him with any issue and receive a listening ear.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret and his family at this sad time,

    Michael Wardle
  26. Meeting David always brightened the day as he often had something interesting, original or humorous to say. He will be sorely missed by everyone but his kindness to all will be remembered as a shining example.

  27. We were very sorry to learn of the sudden death of David. It has been a pleasure to know him from the early days, when we overlapped from 1959-1961 at Swanage Grammar School, until recently, when he kindly asked me to lecture at the U3A. David was always very welcoming to us at Lady St Mary’s, to whom he was a good and faithful servant. May David rest in peace and rise in glory.
