Those of us who passed our 13 plus came together from all corners of SE Northumberland and formed the 3X class in 1960. We did not have the advantage of moving to Bedlington Grammar school with already established friendships. Instead, new friends had to be formed quickly. We were deeply grateful for the way in which Miss Anderson (our form mistress and German teacher) settled us into our new environment and particularly appreciated the calm and assured way she went about her interactions with 3X. As a consequence, our class bonded together more closely than could ever be expected. Even to this day we have some remarkable ongoing friendships. Miss Anderson was a beauty that had the 13-year-old boys slobbering on their desks at the site of this sheer loveliness. And she cared too. This wasn’t just any class; it was HER class and she defended us whenever the need arose – a protective mother hen you might say.

We would want her family to know she is remembered after 65 years as our form teacher and later a valued friend with great fondness and gratitude.
