I was sad to see that Mr Bashforth has died. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Mr Bashforth was my J4 teacher at Ecclesall Junior School in 1961-62, preparing his large class (44 pupils?) for our move to secondary school. We loved and respected him greatly and he is always remembered with affection and appreciation whenever any of his former pupils meet up. I remember being intrigued by his unusual mouth – it was the first time I had known anyone born with a cleft palate – but it never occurred to me until reading the tribute in the Sheffield Star that this might have categorised him as ‘disabled’. He never seemed anything other than VERY able to us!
