Remembering my lovely neighbour Jean. I remember her calm dignity and elegance, with flashes of animated asperity, piano-playing, opera-loving, Latin-learning connection with the present and current; cool, proud grandmother; sedately walking down her path, immaculately dressed and coiffed, bright scarf round her neck, sunnies on, pulling an overnight case; see-sawing her stylish aubergine Fiat 500 back and forth to get out of her parking space; (once, in a rare-for-me “nosey neighbour” moment, I watched her spend a good 20 mins attempting to parallel park the Aubegine, until she gave up and put it in the garage.) Lovely Jean. You’re my role model for elegance, ever-youthful attitude and dignity. Thank you for being the best neighbour I could wish for. Love Emma Kiss xx
