  1. We were so sorry not to be able to attend the service, but it was a comfort to be able to watch on line and hear so many fond tributes to John, he was a great stepfather to have because of all of his wonderful qualities, he was great company and as it was said possessed a wonderful joie de vivre, most of all was the happiness that my mother and John gave each other.
    May he rest in peace,
Love from Andrew, Jane and Charlotte.

  2. Maria and I came to know John later in his life. We knew him as a gentle man, gentle of spirit, kind and always with a twinkle in his eye, fuelled of course by his sense of mischief. We loved to be regaled by his tales of adventures past and benefited from his vast horticultural knowledge. It was clear that John gave so much of himself to all he did, he made a positive difference. What an inspiration. It was lovely to see the joy that he brought to Aunty Mary. He is held with warmth and fondness in our hearts. Always a pleasure John. Thank you.

  3. John was a kind and gentle man with great optimism and boundless energy. His horticultural knowledge was indeed second to none, as all who met him can testify.
Most important, however, was the love and companionship he shared with Aunty Mary over recent years.
He will be sadly missed by all but left so many fond memories.

    ROD AND CAROLINE WHEAT
