Lovely man. We remember especially:
* His long-distance walks – South-West and Coast-to-coast
* Our stay with him and Linda in Jersey
* Kick-around football with our boys, all over the place
* Fun at Lingfield races
* The wedding-day (Jim & Dan) poem he wrote on Mauritius
* So much more……
My lovely Uncle and Godfather who was always so warm and kind. I will miss his wonderful hugs that made me feel so special. I still remember the ‘Horse Rides’ on his knee that he gave me when I was a little girl that made me howl with laughter.
I am so sad I won’t get to see him again.
I will always love you and miss you Uncle John.
I remember John as a super smart man with a great sense of humour. I once fell through a little bridge in the Stubbs family’s back garden. John was sitting at the table and was laughing so hard it was difficult not to see the funny side of my situation. I will remember him laughing in the sunshine on that day, surrounded by a family that loves him dearly.
A true gentleman and proud Rotarian.
We were both privileged to know John
John had a wealth of knowledge about Rotary and the running of our Club, and contributed greatly to it. He was always so friendly and helpful with advice, and will be sorely missed.
Nice memories of John spending Christmas’s in Kent, going to Mauritius for the wedding of Jim and Dan, and then there was the week 6 of us, Pam & Rog, John & Linda along with myself & Ian spent on a narrowboat. We were lucky to know him
Very happy memories of my time growing up with Uncle John.
Christmas’s with everyone at Linda and Johns, staying for a few days in the school holidays, joining us in The Lake District and laughing my sock-off watching Pink Panther films in the lounge. A warm and loving environment always with John and Linda.
I am posting this message on behalf of the Oxted Reunion group of which John was a valued and enthusiastic member until, sadly, his illness prevented from attending our annual meetings. The excellent reunion which he organised in Jersey was a real highlight. The few of us that still remain involved will be joining together for our 40th reunion in 10 days time when we shall be drinking a toast to all our absent friends and remembering the happy times we spent together over the years. John will be missed by all of us and we send our condolences & best wishes to his family and friends
John was such an inspirational figure to us all. His courage and determination to fight his illnesses was matched by his total commitment as a Rotarian.
Can’t remember not smiling when we went to see Linda and John. I do remember getting up at their house one year when Santa had been, but the parents weren’t even in bed yet!
Walking the dog around the lake with waterskiiers.
Sunday lunches.
Mauritias Wedding.
Family gatherings were always more entertaining with Uncle John around 🙂
John was a dear friend, a wonderful Rotarian and a really lovely person. His courage when facing such serious illness over such a long period was an inspiration.
He will be sadly missed.
