Hello
Could I offer my deep sympathy for your loss. I was an agnostic student at UEA in 1973 when I first met John when he was chaplain there. His acceptance and evident love for everyone has left a deep and lasting impression.
So sorry to hear of John’s passing and my thoughts and prayers to you all.
Pauline, as you know, both of you were such important people in my life at UEA, and afterwards. John was simply a uniquely loving man and an amazing example to us all. He was singularly the most potent modern theologian I have ever encountered.
The impression John made on me in the three years I was at UEA will stay with me forever. I will never forget him, or your family. I was blessed to know you all.
Tony
With our sincere condolences and fond memories of a wise and inspiring man who helped so many of us at UEA to find our way.
Dear Pauline, So sorry to hear of Jahn’s death via your Christmas card which arrived yesterday. He was a very good friend to me in the 6th form and we worked together on Christmas post and at Pen y faL Hospital. We also met up during our national Service when we were both in London. He was partly responsible for developing my love of classical Music. Your card went to three addresses before it reached me here in Poland . Needless to say I extend my deepest condolences to you and I will always treasure my memories of John, a very good friend.. Our ways diverged after you got married. However we did meet up at our class reunion. Thank you for letting me know in such a gentle way.
