Firstly our condolences and sympathy, a great loss to all who knew him but especially the family
John Robson!! a man with a character that was larger than life. He remains my dearest, closest and longest lasting friend, never a cross word between us and impossible to replace.
A message to John.
Barbara and I do hope that you are now out of pain and back to your happy laughing self, also rid of the terrible disease and the frustration emanating from it over the last few years. May that nightmare be erased from your memory.
I hope that you remember our friendship began at little after 9am on September 14th 1948: nearly 73 years ago at “The Beckenham and Penge Grammar School”. It was our first day there and we were told to sit together (Robson Russell), thereafter we were, metaphorically, joined at the hip. You appointed me as your bodyguard as you were small for your age, (at that time) and didn’t start losing your baby teeth until you were 12. The subject of some unkind micky taking, but it made you as tough as nails.
Rugby Union was our first love, possibly at the expense of studies. We played the game together for the next 20 plus years. You the best scrum half that I ever played with, or against. Perhaps you will reserve a place in your team in the hereafter for a competent wing forward. (1960’s rules)
Barbara and I, together with all of your friends and family will miss you greatly, you are a one off and it has been our privilege to have had you as part of our life, for so many years. You will not be forgotten; your laugh lives on in our memory now and will forever.
Sleep tight old friend,
Allan & Barbara Russell
