I was so sorry to hear that ‘Uncle John’ had passed away. I have very many fond memories of visiting Swanage and, of course, a visit was never complete without passing through the bakery. Indeed, I often think of John when buying my bread here in France. John is indelibly associated with these happy family memories…
Also, I owe to John my Raleigh Superbe bicycle that I used throughout University. A treasure!
A beautifully conducted service yesterday for Uncle John with the sunshine ensuring the Purbeck Hills looked at their best. The sun (although not the cold!) reminded me of helping John in my childhood in the garden at Bay Crescent raking and collecting grass in rusty wheelbarrows. He had a passion for fruit growing and especially blackcurrants, damsons, plums and indeed ‘Albert’s’ pear tree. The trees in the garden were too old to transplant so to continue the family tradition I’ll plant a new damson in Swanage I just hope it fruits as well as John’s!!!
