Laura was a lovely friend, always gathering her friends together – dog walking, organising trips to Hay Festival, Tobacco Factory Theatre and a supportive Book Club member, Not to mention all her lovely suppers we went to. Lots of happy memories. Laura will be greatly missed by Dougal, family and friends.
I’ll be thinking of you and your family tomorrow Dougal, I’m so sorry for your loss. Equally I’m glad that you found each other and had the opportunity to share your love and adventures with such a special person.
We spent many happy days exploring St. Briavel’s with Laura, Robin, Josh and Callum in the days when our kids were young and we visited the family from our home in California. The children always produced a comedy show up in the attic, and Laura would produce ‘fairy cakes’ and other goodies from scratch. She was an amazing cook and kind host. Our daughter Emily adored her Auntie Laura, and Laura treated her with such care and generosity over the years. We rejoiced in her new life with Dougal, and are so very grateful for the deep compassion he has shared with her over these last struggling years. We give thanks for her life, her delightful laugh, and for the memories.
We have only know Laura and Dougal for a short time but her smiles never changed and her eyes always lit up when Dougal was there.
Laura was such a lovely gentle person and it was a privilege to have known her.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Dougal and her family.
We are sad not to have been able to get to Laura’s funeral. I wholly agree with all the sentiments expressed during the service, Laura was such a kind and generous person. She did have the most wonderful smile and laugh. That’s how we’ll remember her.
As everyone said, what great care Dougal and Callum gave to Laura.
Good to see Alan was there and his role as celebrant was perfect.
All best wishes to Dougal, Josh and Callum.
Love,
Charlie and Anne

Laura was the very first person to welcome us to St.Briavels in 1991. She came up to me smiling and said “Hello, I’m your neighbour around the corner.” I remember it well. I have many very happy memories of times spent with her – at Moat Society working parties, our walking group, and when she had friends round for the evening in her beautiful home at the Old Vicarage. Her illness was a great tragedy- and in someone so young, yet she was still able to smile happily when I last saw around four years ago. I’ll remember her always.
Laura was the very first person to welcome us to St.Briavels saying brightly “Hello, I’m your neighbour round the corner”. We were good friends after that – working together for the Moat Society, going on walks and to pop concerts. She and Robin were very generous hosts at the Old Vicarage where we had lots of lovely meals cooked by Laura. It was a huge shock when she became ill. She was so fit and so young. We kept in touch when she moved away and she never lost her ability to smile brightly even though she was unable to talk, or to move much. An amazing woman. I’ll always miss her.
In memory of Laura Wilson- Croome, our brave and gentle neighbour.
