  1. We donate in memory of Granny. Her life having spanned a century of drastic change, her experiences were fascinating to hear about. She was a force to be reckoned with, likely long before it was considered acceptable for a woman to be a force to be reckoned with. Despite any setbacks, she was always an indomitable spirit. I wish for my own daughters to carry some of her spirit with them.

  2. Mother will be much missed by so many. A tough survivor of foster childhood in Jersey (though by all accounts “Auntie” Clara was a wonderful surrogate mother to her in St Helier), and then, at age 20, a hectic evacuation to England followed by four years of a very hard war. Throughout their marriage she provided constant care to Nick’s and my father, John, who was chronically disabled, indeed through to the late 1970s. While she could certainly be awkward, quite often!, underneath and perhaps too often hidden, there was always the foundation of caring. If she had understood our present problems. they would probably seem to her just a temporary upset compared with what she had seen in her own lifetime: something to be simply defeated by sheer grit!

Joan and I will miss her a lot…

  3. I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing the news. My grandfather, Lester Kendall, lived to 100. There’s something special about amazing people like that. I’m glad you got to have her for so many years and I know you will miss her.
    In Christ,

    April Jestings

  5. Granny was a special woman – strong and feisty, and adventurous. I’m happy to have had her in my life for all these years, and hope that I’ve inherited some of her resilience (and certainly her longevity!). My thoughts and love are with you all – Nick and Jo, her other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. May she rest in peace.
