  1. I hadn’t seen Uncle Peter, as I knew him, for many years; he was my last link with family and friends of my Mum in Rotherham and in particular Eastwood Methodist Mission. I remember Uncle Peter as a quiet, gentle man, always smiling and very relaxed. The pictures I’ve just seen confirm to me that nothing had changed despite the many years since I last saw him.

My heartfelt sympathy to all the family but I hope happy memories and the support of family and friends will help them through this difficult time. Remember his wonderful smile, happy times and the good life he lived.

  2. Peter was the father of my dear friend Teresa and I had the pleasure of knowing him since 1968. He was a delightful person- calm and kind and a true gentleman. I will always remember him ( and Jeanette) with great fondness.

  4. Peter was the wonderful dad of my closest friend, Teresa. A lovely, quiet and gentle man, who always had a smile and time to talk to you. He will be missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. My love and condolences to all the family.

  5. I have known Peter and Jeanette Downs most of my life (and of course my dear friend Teresa) they were just a lovely couple. Devoted to each other and their family. Mr Downs always had a lovely smile and a very kind word whenever we met. A gentleman passed this way.

  6. Grandpa, you were such a lovely man who I looked up to more and more with age. I will treasure so many happy memories over the years and thank you for your love, kindness and care you gave me. The love you and Grandma shared was a true inspiration for me, it was clear the devotion you had for her, which stayed until your parting days. I am glad you are together again now. Hearing your stories of how you met were beautiful and continue to shape my relationship with Chris to this day. I was so glad that you were able to meet Chris and I am sure you told Grandma all about him, you gave him your blessing and for that we are truly grateful. I am glad we were able to share our news with you in person in November 2019 and will toast you and Grandma on our wedding day. Our regular trips to visit you over the last few years have been incredible learning new things about your life each time. We had some wonderful days out, driving around, visiting the garden center, stopping off at local cafes, looking out to the see and exploring the Jurassic Coast – these precious moments will stay with me for a lifetime – Thank You. I couldn’t possibly list off all my memories of you but I must say my fondest were visiting your bungalow in Rotherham every other Sunday for melon balls, Lasagna, ice cream and Shloer. Watching Swiss Family Robinson, drinking Yorkshire tea, sleepovers with the electric blanket, pushing Grandma in her wheelchair, visiting the park/fair ground, and playing in your gorgeous garden 🙂 Love to you now and always granddaughter Samantha <3 xxx

  7. Peter – a man of faith who lived out what he believed with conviction; always well dressed ; his eyes twinkled; reliable; if a job needed doing in the church he would do it if he could; one of the only people who had a thorough knowledge of the photocopier!

  10. Peter and Jeannette had a large presence in our lives as we grew up. Mum (Betty) and Jeannette seemed to spend hours chatting on the phone each day, then Peter would come down to our house during the evening, and he and dad would take the dogs for a walk on the playing fields. As families we had many happy days, and holidays together. Peter was always so kind, good fun, and genuinelyinterested in what we were doing, which has always been the case throughout his life. He was a caring uncle, who liked to hear about us and our family, as with all his extended family. Thank you Peter for your love and care for us all, we miss you.

  11. What a privilege it was to celebrate Peter’s life with family and friends and to remember him alongside Jeannette through very many years of happiness. They took me to Eastwood when I was five and it was there that I met my Ken – so I have a great deal to thank them for. The Service was just what he would have wanted and it was very special to be able to take part – albeit at a distance. It is good to know that they will now be re-united, sharing the love that they have always had. May God bless them both. xx
