Christmas Trees of Remembrance

Remembrance trees

Christmas is a time when loved ones come together and celebrate, but it is also a time when we miss those we’ve loved and lost the most. Their absence is strongly felt, and we wish we could speak to them one last time.

In every one of our Douch Family Funeral Directors branches we have a Christmas Tree of Remembrance. We invite you to visit your nearest branch and to write a message of a remembrance and hang this onto the tree.

This is the fifth year that we have erected Christmas Trees of Remembrance. We do this to offer grief support for those in our community. We’ve been told that people find it helps them to write these messages and hang a memory.

Every year, we pick a new charity that is close to our hearts to raise money, so any donations we receive are greatly appreciated. This year, all money raised will go to Dementia Friends, our chosen charity for 2019.

There are around 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends initiative works hard to educate and change what people think they know about the illness. By doing this, people learn how they can help those living with dementia.

Our fundraising pots have been out since the start of December, and we thank you in advance if you make any donations for Dementia Friends.

What people say:

“People really do find it helpful to write a message to a loved one – it doesn’t matter how long ago they passed away. We also have people, who live out of the area, contact us and ask us to hang a message on their behalf.”

“For many though it will be the first Christmas without a wife, husband, mother or father and the words are very moving.”

Providing bereavement support is very important to Douch Family Funeral Directors, and we run bereavement support groups all year round to support those who have experienced loss.
