Douch’s dementia seminars open to all
Businesses as well as individuals are invited to attend free seminars about living with dementia.
Dorset’s Douch Family Funeral Directors are putting on the events in Blandford, Poole and Corfe Mullen during Dementia Action Week.
Speakers have been lined up to address various aspects of dementia in order to help people deal with the issue.
Personal Experience
On Wednesday May 22 events are being held at the Ives and Shand branch in Parkstone at 7am and at the Lesley Shand branch in Blandford at 6pm.
The first will hear a personal account from Brian Hallett about his personal experience of living with someone with Lewy Body Dementia.
And in Blandford Dr Bernard Coope will be giving a talk on ‘Living with dementia & the impact on their lives & those around them’.
The following day in the Lesley Shand branch in Corfe Mullen at 2pm Dr Bernard Coope will again be speaking.
Also speaking in Corfe Mullen will be Peter Jones, Chair of the Corfe Mullen Dementia Friendly Community, and those attending will hear a personal account of living with someone with dementia.
Small Changes
The funeral group has had all its premises audited for those with dementia and most of its staff are ‘dementia friends’ following training.
Emma Regan from the group who is organising the events said: “We have found the dementia training of great benefit.
“Often very small changes can really help those with dementia and their carers and we are inviting businesses as well as individuals to book in to the seminars.
“Businesses, especially if public-facing, can really benefit from knowledge about dementia and related conditions.
“The three venues have their own 40 seater Ceremony Rooms in which we’ll be holding the events.
“There will be coffees, tea and cake – Corfe Mullen, bacon rolls (or vegetarian alternative) for the morning seminar at Parkstone, & cheese & wine at Blandford. The seminars, we hope will give an insight into this important and growing issue & allow a networking opportunity for likeminded businesses & individuals.
In Partnership
“We have partnered with the Poole Dementia Action Group for the Parkstone event, Blandford Dementia Action Alliance Group for the Blandford event and Corfe Mullen Dementia Friendly Community for the Corfe Mullen event. We really want to raise awareness as well as helping attendees in practical ways.”
