How’s that? Broadstone CC win the Jack Douch Memorial Trophy

The inaugural Jack Douch Memorial Trophy for cricket in the community was won by Broadstone CC.

(l-r) Shane Watson, from sponsors The Dorset Funeral Plan, Jack Morgan from Broadstone CC, Peter Douch, Nick Douch and his daughter Tamika, all family of Jack Douch after whom the trophy is named.

The club’s vice chairman Jack Morgan was presented with the award and a cheque for £400 at the Dorset Cricket League’s AGM, held at the Crown Hotel in Blandford.

The trophy, provided by the sponsors The Dorset Funeral Plan, is named after Jack Douch who died last year aged 90 and was a cricket enthusiast and war hero.

From the age of 14 he worked for his father’s firm F.C. Douch and Son in Wimborne, which is now the funeral directors called Douch & Small.

In 1999 it introduced The Dorset Funeral Plan, which has been sponsoring the cricket league for eight years.

Jack’s family decided to mark his passing with the award for the club that has done most for the game in their community.

Broadstone was praised for its inclusivity and it was announced that Stalbridge CC and Parley CC were runners-up.

Jack’s son Peter presented the trophy and was accompanied by his son Nick and granddaughter Tamika.

Peter said: “Broadstone have been great innovators of youth cricket and do great work for the disabled and women’s cricket.

“They also have a great social side and fully deserve the award which we intend to present annually.”

Jack Morgan said: “We cater for abilities, all ages no matter what gender or race and we are an inclusive club.”
