Tea dance hits the right spot

Tea Dance

Dozens of quick-stepping couples attended a tea dance and were able to practise their cha-cha-cha.

They waltzed around the Broadstone War Memorial Hall and were led by the ‘Shall We Dance’ trio.

The free, fully inclusive event was hosted by Lesley Shand Funeral Service, which is part of Douch Family Funeral Directors.

In Partnership

It was run in partnership with Broadstone’s Stepping Stones Dementia Friends group, the Leonardo Trust and Shall We Dance.

Dame Annette Brooke, chair of Stepping Stones dementia friends group, attended along with staff from Lesley Shand.

Emma Regan from Douch Family Funeral Directors, said: “We had almost 50 people for this inaugural event.

Regular event

“We will be holding them monthly and those who are carers can come for free thanks to the Leonardo Trust, which helps those in Dorset who are ‘voluntary carers’.

“We put on tea and homemade cakes and everyone had a great time being led by Shall We Dance.

“Tea dancing is coming back thanks to the interest generated by Strictly Come Dancing.

“Potentially we’ll be running events in other locations and we’d encourage everyone to … ‘keep dancing’.”

For future events there will be a small charge, but carers can potentially be subsidised by the Leonardo Trust.

To book in for future events contact Lesley Shand funeral service, which is one of eight branches belonging to Douch Family Funeral Directors.
