Witchampton CC are team of the month
Witchampton CC first XI picked up the Dorset Funeral Plan team of the month award for July – after five wins in five games.
In fact, the experienced squad lost just two points during the entire month in the Dorset Funeral Plan League II.
The players were presented with a trophy, individual medals and a bottle of bubbly by Tina Sartain from the sponsors.
Team skipper Marc Hayter said everyone had contributed to the success that came after opener Jim Houldey broke his finger at the end of June and missed the whole month.
However, Ian Broom scored four half centuries and Martin Ashford scored two fifties as the team posted some impressive totals.
Skipper Hayter and slow bowler Stuart Hibbard picked up wickets and father and son act Mark and Harrison Bowles were also instrumental in the success.
Marc Hayter said: “We’ve quite an experience squad but Harrison Bowles who is 15 and an all-rounder really made the difference for us.
“After losing our opener Jim Houldey – who had scored lots of runs up until he broke his finger – we wondered how we’d get the totals. But everyone chipped in.”
Along with the on-field success, Witchampton’s teas – courtesy of Suzi Hayter and Sarah Ashford – have become the envy of the league.
Tina Sartain, from the sponsors, said: “Witchampton’s five wins from five games during July is impressive and they deservedly won the award.
“They have a team in which everyone contributes and that has helped their consistent success.”
