I never knew Reg but he made a really important contribution to our understanding of Purbeck history and it’s people. I’ve used his work in my own Langton and Worth family histories. I am a trained archivist and I would definitely recommend to his family if they see this that in the longer term that his legacy of papers are found a home with Dorset History Centre so that people can benefit from his amazing work.
Best wishes Richard Wiltshire [email protected]
What an extraordinary man! I was house captain at Boys High School Harrow when Reg was House master, I learnt more from him than any other in my life. I was fortunate to have corresponded with him over the last 20 years and actually met with him again in 2005, to thank him in person for all he did for me. I didnt really have a father while at BHSH as my dad was very ill for those important 5 years of my life, thank goodness for Reg. He was a 24 hour a day TEACHER not just lessons but Choir, Orchestra, trips to Concerts and Plays etc etc as well as Teaching History Art and Music; He introduced me to the fact that music could be 3 dimensional!!! I am sad at his death, but joyous kinowing what a wonderful legacy he leaves behind in the minds of all that knew him. Peter Ellis (now living in France)aged 80
In the 1950s & early 1960s Mr Saville was the history teacher & deputy Headmaster at Harrow High School for Boys . He was an inspirational teacher and in my opinion one of the best teachers at the school . I can still remember many of his vivid explanations of historic events . He made a terrific contribution to the school including building the school library from scratch and founding the school orchestra . As a former pupil I regard him as having made a positive contribution to my education
